During menopause (and ageing in general), oestrogen levels decline, leading to several skin changes. Oestrogen is crucial for maintaining skin moisture and elasticity; its reduction can result in dryness, itching, and increased sensitivity, which means it’s important to adapt your skincare routine.

Menopausal skin can experience thinning, loss of elasticity, and increased dryness. These changes make the skin more environmentally sensitive, again needing us to have a shift in our skincare priorities. Let’s be honest, it’s also a great excuse for some shopping!

Nourishing Your Skin from Within

Diet and Hydration

Your diet plays a huge role in your skin health. Foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins can significantly impact skin hydration and elasticity. Staying well-hydrated is also crucial as it helps to maintain our moisture levels and flush out toxins. So back to the shopping thing, grab yourself one of those bottles that keeps you on track all day with water. There are some calculations you can do to see what you need for your weight etc, but sticking to the basics of 2 litres a day is pretty good. And if you’re out having cocktails or a glass of pinot, do the 1 booze / 1 water tango. Your head and your face with thank you.

Incorporate foods like salmon, nuts, and leafy greens into more meals. These are not only beneficial for menopausal skin but also for overall health. There’s a reason all those Greek Goddesses looked so fabulous - that Mediterranean Diet is fabulous for our skin.
